Giving you food for thought...

In response to much positive feedback arising from this section of my website, I have recently re-arranged things a little, in order to devote more space to covering those ideas relating specifically to areas of economic interest. Click here to learn more.

In future this page will focus upon the twin issues of ‘Peak Oil’ and the developing of ideas emanating from the concept of sustainable development.

I have been investigating the concept of ‘Peak Oil’ and considering its implications. The Wolf At The Door web site is a good starting point for understanding this concept from a UK perspective. The Oil Drum is also an interesting source of information about the use of energy in all its forms. This UK-based report is very comprehensive.

Dr Albert Bartlett, a professor at Boulder University in Colorado explains the concept of exponential growth very simply in his series of 8 short illustrated talks. More importantly he illustrates graphically how such growth will become totally unsustainable. Fortunately, for all of us, the whole series is now available on ‘You Tube’. The first lesson in the series can be found here. I recommend it to you strongly - and the arithmetic is very simple. For me this was a very BIG revelation indeed!

Perhaps, surprisingly, I am still an optimist. Past history has shown that on many occasions it would have been easy to write off the future for mankind. I appreciate that some huge fundamental adjustments are going to be required in the months and years that lie just ahead. Just how that will happen remains to be seen. I do believe that, ultimately, it will come to pass. The ideas on these web sites are good pointers:

This Toolkit for Sustainable Living has many useful links which I think are well worth following up.

Who is Chris Martinson? Read on to find out!

A few months ago I happened upon a web site run by Chris Martenson and, since following his on- line ‘Crash Course’, I now have a whole new perspective on the issues arising from the challenge of finite resources versus exponential growth.

Returning to Chris Martenson and his course which is also on ‘You Tube’ and which can be accessed directly via his web site. There is also a much higher quality version of his course now available on  DVD.

Following the guidelines on Chris Martenson’s web site I am now producing and distributing this DVD (legally and gratis) on request from family and friends who want it. Everyone else will need to pay a nominal amount to cover the costs of production and postage.  Please refer to Chris’s web site for details of his terms and conditions covering copyright, distribution rights and payment. If you would like one (or more) of these DVDs, please contact me via e-mail (address on my Home page).
